Mission Statement and Goals

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide an open forum where residents can access relevant information, share educational materials, and engage in respectful online discussion about Anacortes’ future and current city issues. We also work to ensure accountability by challenging city practices—when appropriate—through legal channels to confirm compliance with all Federal, State, County, and City laws, regulations, and ordinances, and to promote the use of best‑available science and modern engagement practices.

Our Goals

1. Strengthen Resident Representation

Ensure Anacortes residents are proactively recruited and meaningfully engaged on all city volunteer boards.

2. Increase Public Participation

Encourage and support resident attendance and active engagement in City Council, Planning Commission, Parks & Recreation, and all other public meetings.

3. Expand Civic Education

Provide residents with clear, accessible education on how the city operates—including budgeting, capital planning, ordinances, the Growth Management Act (GMA), the Public Meetings Act, the Shoreline Master Program, Critical Areas Ordinances, and other essential governance frameworks.

4. Modernize Public Engagement Systems

Ensure the City of Anacortes adopts and consistently uses best‑available methodologies, processes, and data‑management systems to promote public participation and inform residents throughout every stage of city decision‑making—from concept development through policy, ordinance, and project completion.

5. Achieve These Goals by April 1, 2030

Work collaboratively and persistently to meet all goals by April 1, 2030.
