Our Work on the 2025 Comprehensive Plan
In December 2025, the City of Anacortes adopted an updated Comprehensive Plan. After reviewing the plan and participating throughout the public process, Smart Growth Anacortes identified several areas where additional clarity, transparency, and public discussion were needed.
To support community understanding, we shared documents, commentary, and questions about the plan. Ultimately, we filed four appeals with the Growth Management Hearings Board to address issues we believed warranted further review. These appeals were part of our commitment to ensuring that planning decisions are made openly, with clear information available to the public.
This work highlighted the importance of accessible records, transparent communication, and meaningful public involvement — principles that continue to guide our mission today. Although our focus has broadened beyond the appeals process, the materials from this period remain available as a resource for residents who want to understand how planning decisions are made and how community members can participate.
